It seems like the holidays sneak up on us year after year. Despite this pattern, each year December hits and some of us are caught completely off guard. We always promise to be better prepared the next year, but these promises never seem to stick. We’re going to help you out this year though. Rather than having the holidays arrive and not being ready, we’ve made a list of all the things you can stock up on beforehand, so you’re ready for everything that comes your way.

Whether it’s for a party you’re hosting, a potluck at work, or a cookie exchange at your child’s school you’re probably going to have to do some baking at least once this holiday season. Make sure your pantry and fridge is stocked with these baking essentials.

  • Butter
  • Flour
  • Sugar (Granulated and icing)
  • Vanilla
  • Cookie tins
  • Piping bags

Parties are a huge part of the holidays. This is a good thing for all the social butterflies out there. If you’re planning to host a party this year or are anticipating last-minute holiday visitors, be sure to stock up on all the things you’ll need to get the hostess with the mostest crown. Lots of beverages, snacks, and festive napkins are key essentials.

  • Wine
  • Beer
  • Liquor
  • Drink mix
  • Festive garnishes (cranberries, cinnamon sticks, pomegranate, orange peel)
  • Napkins
  • Lots of dishes and glasses
  • Finger foods – cheese, crackers, charcuterie – you know the drill!

The holiday season is all about giving. Hopefully you’re armed with a solid holiday shopping list, and the motivation to beat the crazy crowds. Make sure you have all the gift wrapping supplies, and the actual gifts you need to give, including extra hostess gifts you can throw a bow on as you’re running out the door to your next holiday party.

  • Wrapping paper
  • Tape
  • Bows
  • Ribbon
  • Tags
  • Cards
  • Tissue paper
  • Gift bags
  • Extra gifts to give hosts

There are always those last minute things you may want to have on hand at the holidays. It’s so easy to forget about what you ran out of or forgot to grab at the store the previous year. Don’t make the same mistake this Christmas!

  • Stamps
  • Nonperishable items to donate
  • Batteries for new toys on Christmas morning
  • Salt for your walkway
  • Ornaments and extra lights in case of any breaks
