We’ve told you before how family-friendly our newest community, Aurora Trails, is shaping up to be. With its abundant natural ammenities and spacious lots, it’s the perfect place for a family to enjoy everything summer has to offer. The City of Aurora has similar benefits, and it’s chock full of fun summer events the whole family can enjoy! Here are a few we think you should definitely check out:
Doors Open Aurora
Saturday, August 15
Get to know our town even better with this look inside Aurora’s most interesting and historical buildings. Look deeper into the Aurora Cultural Society, Aurora City Library, Rising Sun Masonic Lodge, the Petch Log House built in 1818, and the historic St. Andrew’s College, among many others. This rare look into buildings generally closed to the public comes only once a year – so check out this interactive map and plan your route!
Concerts In The Park
July & August
Check out Canadian talent swinging in every style, from big band to jazz to country to vintage rock. Bring a picnic or enjoy eats from on-site vendors and make the most of summer’s late sunsets with this intermittent concert series. Check out the whole lineup here.
September 11 – 13, 2015
Summer’s not quite over until this event! 2015 marks the tenth anniversary of Aurora’s meatiest event. Catch local rib masters alongside competitive teams from Alabama, Nevada, Florida and more. If meat’s not your thing, there’s also live music, a beer garden, an inflatable midway and kid’s activity zone. Don’t miss it – get more details here!
Aurora Public Library
Special Events All Summer
Everyone’s welcome at Aurora Public Library for their rotating calendar of activities, events and readings for people of all ages. Whether you’re at home with the kids, or have kids home from summer holidays, the library’s a sure bet for an education afternoon (and air conditioning!). Check out the calendar here.
Newmarket Jazz Festival
July 31 – August 3, 2015
Take in some culture on your long weekend with dozens of talented jazz artists just a short drive out of Aurora at Newmarket’s Riverwalk Commons. Notably, Francesco Yates will be headlining – the 19-year-old Scarborough native who’s already collaborated with Pharrell Williams and had his work featured in a Coke commercial. See him now – in a few years, you’ll have to trek to the ACC to see him perform!
