There’s a chill in the air and winter is definitely here! When the cold weather hits, it can be a struggle to get the family out of the house. Luckily there are so many places throughout Whitby and Durham region to take the family. We’ve rounded up a few of our favourite activities both for the family and for the kids to do, both outdoors and in! Hopefully it’ll give you some inspiration.
Here are some of our favourite things to do in the winter:
Lace up your skates
Dust off those skates! There’s nothing like hitting the skating rink on a winter day, especially if you combine it with some hot chocolate afterwards. There are a few spots right within Whitby to take the family and you can check out their public skating schedules right over here.
Hit the slopes at Lakeridge Ski Resort
Lakeridge is a local favourite when it comes to winter activities. They’re known for having some great ski hills that vary in ability, which is great whether you’re a beginner or more experienced skier or snowboarder. On top of that, there’s some tubing hills and you can also rent out snowshoes and check out the trails! There’s definitely something for everyone in the family here so be sure to make a day of it.
Drop the kids off at Kids Zone
If you’re looking for some indoor activities, taking the kids for an afternoon here is always a hit. There’s everything from slides and equipment to play on to laser tag. There’s so much for them to do and it’s also a great spot to host a birthday party for those winter birthdays!
Make a splash with swimming lessons
It’s probably not the first activity that you think of when you think of winter. Get the family ready for summer with some swimming lessons for the kids. There are a few indoor public pools in Whitby that offer swimming lessons and it’s a great way to get your kids active if they’re not a big fan of the cold. Check out the schedules on the city’s website!
